How we use AI tools, and protect confidential information
CLI Systems believes that AI is a powerful tool that can speed up the development of engineering and software. However, AI does not replace the professional engineering expertise of CLI Systems employees.
A useful comparison is the calculator: a calculator does not replace an engineer's understanding of the underlying math. A calculator is a tool that allows calculations to be performed quickly, and it increases confidence that the numbers are correct.
The engineer still has to know which calculation to run, why it matters, and whether the answer makes sense.
We work with AI tools the same way, they are a tool that helps us move faster and check our work, but the engineering judgment behind every decision remains ours. Every deliverable reflects the experience, accountability, and oversight of a CLI Systems engineer.
We use AI tools to augment our engineering, not to replace it.
We use AI coding tools from commercial providers, as well as open source models and tools, run locally and through vetted services. We select these tools based on the project and data privacy requirements.

AI services not listed here are not used by CLI Systems for business or engineering services.
CLI Systems understands that the engineering details of many projects contain confidential information which must remain private. Many times this confidential information must not be transmitted to third party systems such as AI providers.
When a project requires it, CLI Systems can rely on AI tools hosted locally and controlled entirely by CLI Systems, keeping all data on our own systems. We can also forgo AI tools altogether and complete the work using the in-house engineering expertise we already have.
If a project requires high confidentiality, CLI Systems will engage with the client to clarify AI access before using AI tools.
